2010, Montréal City of glass

Montréal, City of Glass 2010 was initiated by the Board of Montréal Museums Directors (BMMD).  Glass will be the theme for 40 participants of Montréal cultural life in 2010. Architectural, artistic, environmental, historical, scientific, each participant will depict glass in its own way. From February until December 2010, exhibitions, demonstrations, movies, lectures, all kind of activities will be about glass. To know everything about the program: www.villedeverre.com

Espace VERRE's exhibitions

  • February 19th to April 9th 2010
    A solo retrospective exhibition of Élisabeth Marier glass art career 
  • April 22nd to June 4th 2010
    A solo exhibition celebrating glass artist Donald Robertson’s 30-year career
  • Mai 27th to 29th 2010
    The glass art association of Canada’s (GAAC) members’ exhibition will be shown at the CEGEP du Vieux Montréal’s Agora
  • May 29th 2010, the GAAC conference will end with a spectacular Glass Fashion Show, at the Montréal Science Center’s Belvedere room, artistically directed by Laura Donefer, glass artist and Philippe Dubuc, fashion designer. The tickets that cost 30 $ can be purchased at the Montréal Science Centre
  • June 17th to September 9th, 2010
    Espace VERRE is proud to present, in collaboration with the CEGEP du Vieux Montréal, its glass program Graduates’ Exhibition
  • September 23rd to January 14th, 2011
    An exhibition on Montréal-the city is scheduled. Artists to be confirmed.

Other exhibitions

  • February 27th, 2010, from 8pm-2 am. Montreal All-Nighter event of Montréal’s High Lights Festival. Gérald Collard will create a giant two and a half meters red colored neon letter E. This project will simultaneously celebrate Montréal as the city of glass and the neon’s centennial celebration… now you must find it, somewhere in the city
  • September 28th to December 5th, 2010
    Espace Création, Loto-Québec
  • The kaleidoscope exhibition of twenty or more works by Quebecois glass artists. This exhibition is curated by Paul Bourassa, of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec
  • September 9th to November 14th, 2010
    Maison de la culture Marie-Uguay presents the Verre aujourd’hui exhibition glass works by members of Espace VERRE’s teaching staff
  • June to September 2010
    The McCord Museum presents some of the sartorial creations made for the GAAC’s Glass Fashion Show

Espace VERRE’s glass art activities

  • Demonstrations
    Students and professional glass artists regularly work in our studios. Visitors are welcomed to visit during our regular hours Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, during the Montreal All-Nighter event on February 27th from 8pm to 2 am. We have open houses the last Sundays of each month from 12 to 5 pm (March 28th, April 25th, May 30th, June 27th, July 25th, August 29th, September 26th, October 31st, November 8th).
    For the Holidays, we have the "Blow your own Christmas ball" event on December 5th, 12th, 19th 2010, at a cost of 25$ per ball. This event requires a reservation at (514) 933-6849.
  • Guided tours
    Espace VERRE offers guided tours for visitors, artists, students, teachers and various groups of at least six persons. Cost: 5$ per person. The tour lasts a minimum of 1 hour and is offered in French or English. You must reserve by telephone at least 1 week in advance.
  • Intensive weekend classes (Note renvoi à la section formation)
    Come familiarise yourself with the different glass techniques, by taking one of our weekend classes.
  • Creativity Workshops
    Liberate your creativity while learning 1 or 2 glass techniques (ex: falameworking glass and sandblasting), (duration of 3h, cost 50$ per person with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 25 participants.) You must reserve at (514) 933-6849
  • Public lectures
    Bruno Andrus will give public lectures, on Antiquity and Roman Empire glass history. The cost is 12 $ per lecture. Reserve at (514) 933-6849.
