1. Houdé-Mendel Award
This annual award is open to all graduates of Espace VERRE. A jury selects the winning candidate who will be granted the use of the Houdé-Mendel kiln, for a year at no cost. It was created following Francois Houdé's last wishes of supporting research and innovation in kiln and pate de verre work. All the studio time expenses are supplied by Espace VERRE and all utilities costs are paid by M. Joe Mendel, a Montréal glass art collector. M. Mendel had originally offered the kiln to François Houdé for his personal work.
In February 2004, there was an
exhibition of previous laureates.
2. François-Houdé Award
In 1996, the City of Montréal, in collaboration with the Conseil des métiers d'art du Québec, created the
François-Houdé award to highlight the excellence of new products being created within Montreal's craft industry, and promote the work of young, creative artisans.
